Intuitive input and display systems for modern devices and machines.

epis develops and manufactures custom HMI solutions for select industries, with a focus on usability, durability, and reliable system integration. From the initial consultation through schematic design, engineering, schematic development, and PCB layout to component placement, assembly, and testing, you receive a solution fully tailored to your application—all from a single source.

A wide variety of materials and designs are available for enclosure fabrication. Depending on the requirements for protection class, ruggedness, and certification, we use, for example, UL-listed plastics, die-cast aluminum enclosures, or custom-manufactured sheet metal constructions made from various materials. From the very beginning, we take into account factors such as EMC, heat dissipation, ease of assembly, and compliance with standards.

Hardware Depending on the application, we develop compact control units, integrated display units, or decentralized HMI systems with exactly the functions and interfaces your application requires. Whenever possible, we draw on proven schematic templates from our technology toolbox. This helps shorten development times, reduce technical risks, and integrate HMI solutions cost-effectively into customer-specific device and machine designs.

We use LC displays ranging from 2.7" to 21", from simple TFT displays to high-quality IPS displays with wide viewing angles. Depending on the application, environmental conditions, and operating concept, we integrate capacitive multitouch systems that can also be designed for operation while wearing gloves, if necessary. For applications with specific requirements regarding haptics, safety, or process control, we also implement HMI solutions with mechanical buttons that are integrated directly into the front glass.

In addition to display and input technology, we take all relevant aspects into account during the development phase, such as front-panel design, housing integration, EMC-compliant construction, interfaces, protection rating, operating logic, and long-term availability. The result is robust, durable, and intuitive HMI systems that integrate seamlessly into control systems, I/O solutions, drive systems, or complete device platforms.

This leads to customized user interface solutions that effectively combine technology and user guidance—precisely tailored to the industry, application, and product lifecycle.

Software Modern HMI systems are much more than just display and control units. They serve as the central interface between the user, the device, and the higher-level system.

Depending on the requirements, we use Linux- or Windows-based operating systems and optimize the software platform for the display size, processor architecture, user interface concept, and operating environment. This results in HMI solutions for compact operator terminals, decentralized display units, or fully integrated control and visualization systems.

A key focus of our development is the integration of modern software components. These include database systems, web servers and web browsers, GUI frameworks, communication interfaces, visualization solutions, and containerization technologies. This enables HMI systems not only to perform local operating functions but also to collect, store, and visualize process data, as well as exchange it with other devices or higher-level systems. Whether touch-based operation, glove-compatible multitouch interfaces, mechanical buttons on the front glass, or web-based operating concepts: the software ensures intuitive, secure, and reliable interaction between humans and machines.

Cybersecurity is also a central component of our HMI software development. Right from the architecture phase, we take into account requirements for secure communication, user and access rights concepts, updateability, and long-term maintenance. Through regular software updates, we help our customers operate their systems securely, stably, and with future-proof capabilities throughout the entire product lifecycle.

This results in HMI software solutions that optimally combine display, operation, communication, and security. epis supports its customers from the selection of the appropriate software platform through GUI development and integration to ongoing support during series production, thereby creating robust, maintainable, and custom-tailored operating solutions for sophisticated devices and machines.
