Control System for Assembly Automation

The modular, networked, and decentralized conveyor system is designed for assembly lines that must be individually expandable and configurable at any time.

Key Facts:

  • Integration of the control system into the assembly line’s design concept
  • Design and construction of the stand base for assembly lines with integration of the compact control system
  • Automation of individual, linkable mechatronic components
  • Use of the epis technology module system for compact controllers

Requirements

  • Decentralized Architecture
  • The architecture is based on a master-slave topology.
  • Communication takes place via Ethernet.
  • All I/O of the slave controllers is implemented via the AS-i bus.
  • Each slave controls a conveyor segment with up to three RFID readers.
  • Programming is performed using CODESYS V3 in accordance with IEC 61131-3.

Solution approach

  • Using the epis Technology Modular System for Compact Controllers
  • Addition of an AS-i master interface
  • Object-Oriented Programming in CODESYS V3

Specific Benefit

  • The assembly line's ease of expansion and reconfiguration allows for a high degree of flexibility and rapid adaptation to customer needs.
  • The reusability of the conveyor segments reduces investment costs.
